Worst winter yet

When I decided in 1994 when I left the army after 3 years part time on the glass to be a full time windie I realised it's a 52 week a year full time job.

Never in all these years had more than the odd day 2 or 3 times a year off work due to weather.

Put the correct clothes on and go out and work.

Expecting-4 at 9am tomorrow but I'll still ne out.

How do you deal with things like the hose and pole freezing and concern over slip hazards? We’ve had no real snow here, hence my thinking about going, but once I saw the hoses had frozen It was a no go for me.

I got out today, it was lovely here, no jacket all day just a thermal long sleeve and jumper ?? Hopefully get out tomorrow and I’m completely up to date after my isolation!

I just had a look at my weather app. It's forecasting down to -5, possibly -6 around 5am in your area and mine. And a maximum of around 0c I hope you can protect your equipment. ?

Luckily I’ve got underground parking that seems to stay a fair bit warmer than outside, I’ve moved the van down to there for the night and a sleeping bag over the equipment. Should be golden in the morning!

The smaller the volume, ie inside diameter (5mm), and the thinner the wall the quicker it loses heat. Jets will freeze quicker again.

Keep the water running, yes you will waste water but getting 3/4's of your work done is better than nowt and sitting at home.

I did a couple of hours yesterday and did a full afternoon today [5 hours].  Thin snow on the ground but have to say it was perfect for window cleaning, zero breeze and the sun was shining.  The sills were freezing over so it must have been cold but didn't feel it.  Few snow flurries later on but was alright.

To be honest I think I'd rather be -1c in the sunshine with no wind than 6c in the rain it's the cold rain or cold wind that's the worst.    

Been wearing trainers with sealskin waterproof thermal socks, feet tend to be alright with them on.  Hands feel it but found I just have to take the gloves off now and again, for some reason they seem to freeze if I leave the gloves on, so have to take them off, wiggle my fingers about and then they go alright again.  Been using the Showa 282, sometimes with cotton liner gloves as well as nitriles.

I think you're nuts not wearing gloves, my hands would just freeze and skin crack.  I know what you mean though with regards to 'getting used to it', I wear shorts because my legs don't feel it, but my hands bloody feel it, lol.

I used to wear shorts all year but now my knee hurts more every year in the cold due to motorbike accident when I was young.

Ageing is not fun lol.

In Washington state.

Tomorrow its supposed to be windy around 20mph and gusts to 40 with the same temps.

we ve had -1 and -2 temperatures up until lunchtime here in the north west all week with the odd light snow shower but its perfectly workable....i dont wear proper gloves either...all i wear are nitrile disposable gloves as i use hot water so my hose is warm and it slightly warms the pole too.....

i much prefer working in this weather(cold and sunny)than the wet weather we ve had already this year!

one more working day tomorrow then im having 4 days off........?

Snowed ftom sunday tea time till wednesdat evening here, ill write the week off as holiday.
