Anyone working in between Xmas and New year?

Totally agree with the statement on dry January!
No wasn’t at the final. My mate only joined the PDC last year so could only get 6 tickets for the earlier rounds.
Brilliant but expensive. I pay £4.40 a pint in my local, £5.50 when I go Millwall as I’m then in inner London, but at the Allexander palace it was £8 a pint!!
Still would recommend it though, great atmosphere and a great laugh ?
Pricey but no different going to an inner-city pub or big arena where they have your eyes out for a pint.

I haven't watched the darts for a few years now, but I haven't seen anything like the atmosphere or the darts playing that I saw last night.

Well I didn't make it out over the Xmas/New Year period, Covid slammed me hard. Bah!
I started with a scratchy throat on Tuesday morning(first day back at work)and increasingly its got worse and worse each day since, high temperature, headaches, dizziness, severe sore throat and chest infection.

I tested positive yesterday(I got a test off one of my customers).I've had covid before but it was just a sniffle!nowhere near as bad as this time round(ive had 5 jabs too!).....

I've worked every day but been finishing around 130pm-2pm.

Total rest all weekend now.hopefully I'll feel better by Monday!

What's everyone's plans this festive period?

This is the first year I've hit the Christmas period fully self-employed so part of me is cautious about not working between Christmas & new year - however, the in-between bit happens to fall on a Saturday/Sunday this year so I might just start a fresh after new year and take the 2 weeks off. In fairness, apart from the odd day, I've not had any time off since June so probably need a break 🤣.

If you can afford it take the time off, have a rest and enjoy yourself.

No chance, finish on the 19th and won't go back, weather forecast permitting, till Jan 6th. Even in the early days we wouldn't work inbetween Christmas Day and New Year

There is not a chance of working between Xmas and New Year no one wants you turning up when they are on holiday and have family around etc,

I had considered going back to work on Thursday the 2nd but most likely most people will still be off work and parking and access will be a pain, which is something I can do without, although I'll be demented long before then and eager to get back to work.

I tried it in my first year cleaning windows and it was a nightmare tbh. People weren't up in the morning so couldn't really start until 10 and then come lunchtime they're sitting round the dining table eating with relatives/friends and the last thing they want is the windie turning up. So it's two weeks off for me as usual. I find it's the only time I can totally switch off from work but getting back into the swing of things can be difficult especially if it's really cold.

True. This is why my wife and I always book a week’s holiday in the sun for the second week of January.
This isn’t a boast, it’s something that really works for us.
When loads of people are gutted the Christmas holidays are over, we go back to work all exited as it’s only a week before the sunshine beckons.
I don’t work to a schedule. I just warn my customers in December that I’ll be very late around next time. Never had an issue 👍😎🙂

Nice one I'd do the same but I'm not keen on flying. Enjoy yourself. 👍

Depends on the person really, if you want to work then work, if you don't then don't. Il probably finish up the 23rd until the 3rd. Although, as bad as the job is, sometimes I have found myself bored and went out to work in between for a day or 2. Just for 4 hours usually.

Similar here, it was mine and wifes first year together we had bought our first house and got married a few months before so we were skint, thankfully it was in the village I grew up in so no one was bothered about me been out, but I have never done it since.

I finished 3rd week of November and am going back Jan 6th !!!

Mind you I’ve worked without a day off for months and have work booked similarly until Autumn 2025 minimum so it’s either take some time now or never. If it makes you all feel better I’m fitting my own kitchen with my time ‘off’. Given that I started it in the run up to last Christmas it’s probably about time. 😂

I'm finishing when the work is done or on the 24th, whichever comes sooner. Then back on the 6th. I hate the idea that people are trying to enjoy time with family and friends and I'm there sploshing their windows and chapping their door for money! :ROFLMAO:

I finish this Thursday(19th)and go back Monday 6th Jan so 17 days off. Normally I would have around 10 or 11 days off but xmas falls in the middle of the week this year.

I never work in between Xmas and new year.

I'll be sorting garage and shed out at missus house ready for my imminent, permanent arrival!

I told her the shed has got to be mine! Power tools and garden tools on one side and my DI vessels, poles, etc on the other so I know where everything is.

I'll also be doing some equipment maintenance and I need 2 new tyres for my van before I take it for an MOT.

The lull in between Xmas and new year is the perfect time to do them jobs we all don't get round to on a normal working week.

I also do my tax return and the Xmas holiday is the perfect time to get a few intense, afternoon workouts in the gym done ✔️ 💪
