What is your go to brush?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

It’s a real shame the way the univalve seems to have gone. I’ve still got the original three I bought at the start. Two leak a little but not to the point of being unusable and one is still dry.
Obviously it remains to be seen how long the gooseneck valve will last.

I had my first challenge today with it as I had a soffit and fascia clean to do. First problem encountered was how to turn it on as I couldn’t turn it on resting the brush on the fascia board. (Remember I’m using a swivel. If you use a fixed adapter on your brush this might not be an issue) I overcame this by dropping the brush to the upstairs window ledge, turning it on and then using the pinched hose method to control the flow whilst working on the fascia and soffit boards.

I have also used a little silicone grease to smooth out the twist action. I will see how that goes tomorrow.

Another positive to the ‘G’Valve is that when you catch the hose or tread on it you don’t get that irritating squirt of water. I’ve accidentally showered a couple of my customers due to this.
You give very good reviews. Can I just ask when you shorted the tubing, to make the close coupled connection, what did you use to cut the pipe. I bought some pvc pipe cutters for this reason and they wouldn’t cut it. Ended up using a Stanley knife, found it a pain.

That's exactly it Mark. You've studied your craft and thought it through thoroughly and you've explained it very well. I've reached precisely the same conclusions. There's no need to over complicate like some folk do.
Your both right it is about technique. Someone helped me for a day a while ago, they used jets, when they rinsed the window, they held the brush a good 12 inches off the glass. By evening I got several calls and had to go back due to spotting, and leaking vents, It’s for this reason it put me off jets. That’s why I haven’t been moved in the past from pencil jets. But I am now more clues up with your two experience views. So we will see how things go. Many thanks.

I use a small pipe cutter. I'll post a photo tomorrow, when I get the van back. It's gone in for a suspected, slight wheel bearing noise.

It’s PU hose same as the pole hose except it’s clear and smaller bore. Tough stuff.
I use some cutters GPS supply.

A sharp sturdy pair of scissors should do it though

I will give you all a tip if you decide to change to close coupled connections. When you cut one and it fits perfectly then wrap insulation tape round it so you can use that as a template for cutting more at exact size. I have both the long and short template hoses for my 350mm brushes and all the clear hoses fit perfectly every time. ?

I don’t always agree with you on all your thoughts  Scottish, at least we can agree to differ. This is a good idea though. Hope the weather is better up there for you today. Heavy rain here.

Great day up here and finished at 1pm. Decided to fit 30 metres of red PU hose on my reel rather than the joined up spare bits together. It used to snag on every joint and I was doing alot of walking back and throw but as they say it improves your memory. It improved mine so much I got shot of them and joined up a 30 metre length instead. ?

Thought i would have another shot at the 100 degree fan jets as I haven’t used them for time and went back to pencil jets due to keep snapping them in the past.

First thing I noticed I had to up the flow to get the fizz sound on the capsule jets more so than the originals jets , even though I had up the flow at a guess I would think (I haven’t check) the flow rate water per litre would have been the same as what I use for pencils due to the water having to squeeze thru the fan jets.

My conclusion is that what I said many months ago they both work basically the same for ME whether pencil or fan, this was using extreme medium sill brush rinsing on the glass the pencils did however outperform the fans rinsing off.

One thing I’m positive about for a majority of my work is that my 35cm extreme 4 x 1.4mm is a lot faster than the 26cm with only 2 jets whatever your choice is.

Cant wait for the 35cm extreme sill brush to rear it most welcomed head.

Hi Jango, as promised, a photo of my pipe cutters. A bit late, sorry, I only just got the van back. All good, wheel bearings fine.

I've photo'd our most frequently used tools, from left to right, more or less in order of frequency of use. The pump is for an occasional top up on the trolley wheels. The drill driver is for the occasional adjustment of customers gate latches. We carry other tools : a set of combination spanners mounted on on the side of the van for instance. We carry duct tape, PTFE tape, Gorilla glue, Jubilee clips, Hozelock fittings. I forgot to include the tds meter in the photo. I was always going to forget something. ?20200613_191031.jpg

Thank you for that. Isn’t that what I photographed like yours, on the left. I cannot cut the pipe with it though, it’s useless, I’m going to try it on a bit of old hose tomorrow see if it cuts through that.

I seem to remember it was a bit strange on the small Ionics pole hose when I used it a while back but I'm pretty sure it cut it. I think you have to get it right. The cutter is probably really designed more for larger stuff. ?

Ok. I think somewhere I have one of those cutters Marko has. Will have to look for it. Many thanks

Fan of Ultimate 26cm Brush - DuPont TaperTec Hybrid, had few of them, great as a one brush for all jobs. Will keep using them for first clens.

Today used Xtreme SILL 26cm Brush (Medium Soft) for the first time, strange at first but after few houses i love it ? so light and easy to work with my slx18 for maintenance cleans. I can only imagine how nice it will work with extreme18 (my next daily pole).

Will be ordering extreme25 this week, will go for Xtreme 35cm Brush (Medium TaperTec Hybrid) with 4 x 1.4mm jets. Cant wait to use that instead of my slx for high work. Slx 22 with extra 6 & 7 sections for sale soon if anyone intrested...

Any news on a new product from Gardiner? I think I read somwhere there will be solution to Univalve soon...

Sorry back  to brushes again.i was watching utube about what brushes do what, nothing I didn't really know altready, except for the boars hair. The guy was American,i think it was steveo,,loved his boars hair for first cleans(tucker brush) and really, really dirty windows.i had a top vent window I had to finish by hand, because the mono mixed I was using couldn't do it.My question is though, gardiners tapertech bristles kind of replaced their boars hair hybrids, and was wondering ,do they do the trick? Does anyone think having a pure boars hair is a must, like this American. He did though say, that Engish mentality to window cleaning(once a month) was diferent from most American (every 6 months.
