Which small van

WCF

Help Support WCF:

My battery to battery charger always puts the van battery first....you defo have a charging issue....grippa fitted mine when they installed my diesel heater....I'm still on the original numax batteries too!(4 years old!)

Are they the smaller batteries fitted and are your guys and girl sitting with radio on without the engine running, this is how I got stuck one year when my battery died the AA guy said best to run the engine whilst on a break, the things I mentioned previously also come into play plus the daylight running lights

Also is you dad wanting to let those poles out of Aladdin's  cave ?
The trouble is that new legislation dictates that it's illegal to leave your engine running in the street while parked up even if you are sitting in it.

I always leave my engine running at lunchtime winter or summer
Why ??? What a waist of diesel and polluting the planet at the same time , just charge the batteries when you get home as it’s not going to charge them much on tick over anyway

To keep warm or cool and top up my batteries
Does your van not have opening windows then ?? That’s what most do how did you manage before air con ?

I agree with this. Think people should be fined for leaving their engines running unnecessarily

We have a school opposite and the busses stop outside and use that point to adjust their timetables so they can be on tick over for a good 10 to 15 mins!!! It's bad enough that they tick over for that length of time but outside a school!!!!

Any idea if that also applies to busses? They sit outside a school opposite me for a good 10 -15 mins to correct their timetables when running ahead of time in quiet periods!

In all honesty I forgot about this, I generally only have mine running on a morning to demist the windscreen but I'm usually on my drive anyway, I did think there was a 2 minute rule that an engine could be running for but completely pointless to have the engine running just to generate a small amount of heat when on a break as I'd be out of the van before the engine warmed up anyway

I think but could be wrong that is way it was brought in mainly because of buses and what you mention happens shouldn't now be happening

Only exemptions are emergency services vehicles being used at an incident , if busses are parked at a bus depot they have to turn off engines but not at a normal bus stop .

Having said this I don’t  know of anyone that has been fined for not complying with the legislation

You can let your vehicle idle on your driveway totally legally. Move it onto the street and idling the same engine is illegal.

Surely it’s your moral duty to go over to them and tell them to turn off their engines or you’ll report them. Them little kids are breathing in all that ?

I believe it applies to them as well. It certainly applies to a lorry parked on the side of the motorway while the driver is taking a break. (Not sure if it applies to a lorry parked up overnight in a motorway lorry park though.)

Enforcing it will be another matter unless a jobsworth just happens to be there at the right time. If enough parents complain to the authorities, action would possibly only then be taken. How do you enforce idling in bumper to bumper stop start traffic? How long do you have to be stopped for before you have to switch off your engine? Most non start/stop vehicles aren't designed to be continually started.

I can see the reasons why the legislation has been made, but enforcing it in practice is another matter. Yes, you will get some who just pay the fine, but someone will take the matter to court.

Then there are other questions. What about specialist equipment that has to be parked on the side of the road with an engine running to perform a service; ie. compressor or generator? What about those of us who have diesel heaters? The spirit of the legislation is to reduce pollution. I get that, but all these 'appliances' cause pollution.

What about diesel locomotives and the pollution they cause starting up? Youtube of full of videos of these types of cold starts.

What are government doing about the pollution around Heathrow? It's been said that if they banned the use of every gas boiler and stopped traffic on all the roads around Heathrow Airport the pollution levels would still be above levels laid down by the EU.

It does top up the batteries a bit mate, also in winter I have my heated seat on and blowers to keep warm on a cold day...

On a hot summers day air con is bliss at lunchtime

Polluting the planet?give me a break!I only do 3k miles in a year,I bet you do more travelling than that in 6 months

Can't believe people are moaning about someone having their engine running for 10 mins lol ?

Millions of vehicles driving round everyday and we ourselves all week yet its a crime to get warm.for 5 mins.

When I stop for my lunch if I'm cold I'll leave the engine running and have the heater on, if it's red hot in summer I might do the same with the air con.

I also sometimes start van up in morning and leave for 10 mins to defrost whilst I have a cup of tea.

We are all going to die anyway someone having a 10 min lunch break won't save the planet ?
