I would like my MOT in July rather than January because the mechanic is always cold. My next van I will make sure I do two in a year to move it to July if I need to or buy new in July. ?

Same here, keeping heater on all day and oil filled rad at night. Don't like idea of running system dry incase pumps seize. ?

Pump won’t seize if dry
The way they work it matters not if any water is in the system the motor still spins and pushes on the rubber diagram so don’t worry about it

Some chose to stay at home others get out and crack on, I started just after 9am and knocked off around 3pm you just have to be prepared or prepare to fail

You know what the cure for that is a nice cold dip to fire your circulation up ? I suffer the same although not as badly these days, when buying a pair of gloves make sure they aren't a snug fit get one size up this allows for the warm air inside the gloves to circulate and also allows for a thin glove liner if needed the reason ski gloves and similar are so well padded is it's not just to keep the hands warm it's to allow for a bigger gap between your fingers and the outer of the glove so the warm air can circulate,

I got recommended MaxiDry Zero Thermal Waterproof Gloves 56-451 - SafetyGloves.co.uk by someone and asked him about sizing he said they were on the large side I found out they weren't they are nice warm gloves but my finger ends will go ice cold if I try and wear them on a frosty day as they are too snug a fit so I'll stick with my size 9 Skytec Argon extra they are too big and stink but they keep my hands nice and warm

Yeah I've tried the Argons, also the Showa's with the fleece lining, I wear the nitriles underneath and still suffer badly, tried allsorts but given the length of this cold spell I'm going to research it in depth and try and find a solution. The Showa's do need to be larger though, they feel tight with the nitriles underneath.

Today was the same, first hour it starts to get so bad that I'm feeling dizzy and sick, then I get pins and needles and then they decide to warm up ? they are not comfortably warm though, just less pain and less numbness.

Going to try thinsulate next, underneath a pair of rubber gloves. I tried Steve G's suggestion last year using cotton gloves under the rubber gloves, it was a good idea but the cotton I used wasn't thick gloves, so I think a decent pair of thinsulate with rubber on the outside is worth a shot.

I just wear nitrile gloves even in this weather these days.hands are nice and warm due to warm hose.any other type of gloves I find too restrictive

First off I haven't tried this. A few years ago I bought some of these usb heated gloves - not for window cleaning but for remote controlled flying and trying to keep my fingers warm enough to feel the sticks. They worked quite well.
Anyway they have a small fabric square, 40 to 50mm, that provides the heat and that square is removable! It would be easy to take them out of the mittens and slide them into some Argons. You would need to thread the cables up your sleeves and connect to a usb power bank but as long as you don't need to keep taking your gloves on and off it should work.

Definitely noticeably warmer. The ones I linked to are not the ones I have but they show the heating pad, so I'm guessing that it's removable. As it's Amazon if they don't work well just send them back for a refund or re purpose then as a Christmas gift ?

Hi . . . consider mitts so you can have skin on skin inside so the fingers keep each other warm. Can clench a fist too for warmth without taking the mitt off.

Funnily enough I was thinking about mitts as I was in pain today, I was thinking that many of the ski gloves appear to be mitts so must be warmer with your fingers touching together. Don't know what they'd be like for working though, but yeah I'll definitely keep them in mind.

If you want really warm gloves you need three layers. Silk layer, then a sheepskin layer with an outer shell ideally goatskin leather as its waterproof. Cow leather is not waterproof but you can make it waterproof by placing them in an oven for a few mins and then applying beeswax product.
