Mental and physical health can be maintained by working out regularly 3 times a week, eating well and going for walks every day if your stuck in working from home most of the time, keeping in contact with family and friends even if it's just over the phone helps too....

The real mental health problems will come from children not being able to go to school and see their friends IMO....

most adults know how to keep theirselves half sane.....??

I could not agree more with this.

I try not to get in to covid debates on the net but like most I have my opinions.

The long term damage that this is going to do to peoples mental and physical health is going to far outlay that of covid.

We haven't even started to see the full effect on business and the economy yet.I am full commercial I lost more work last year than the previous 10 years combined.

I deal with businesses every day and a lot of my good friends run their own firms in all different industries and all are seeing an impact.

When furlough ends most won't have a job to go back to.I know pals that had really good business pre covid and are now looking at folding it.
Why will there be long term damage to mental and physical health?its down to the individual to keep him or herself physically fit and mentally well.....theres loads of help/info out there to help people make better choices in their diet and take up some form of exercise.....I agree some children will be affected but theyll soon get over it when the schools go back...

Yeah it's a ticking time bomb of future problems.  The primary school next to my parents is something like a 450 pupil school now, [used to be around 200].  I was cleaning their windows Friday lunchtime and you would never have thought that the kids were home schooling, there are loads of them at the school and you could hear them shouting, screaming, running around in the playground just like a normal school day.  There are loads of them in school that probably were not in during the first lock down, guess they have bent the rules a little.

Anyway it got me thinking, those 5, 6 and 7 year olds who make all their friends at school and out and about playing, well the ones who are not allowed to go to school are missing out on that social interaction.  Older kids are probably ok for a short period as they have had chance to make friends, but those who are just entering school they are missing out massively compared to the children of key workers.

I can imagine just a few months of that will shape their whole lives with how they meet people and how they interact with people.

I used to be a caretaker for a primary school and one of the teachers way saying how rewarding the job is.  She was saying that in her year group they would start in September not being able to read or write and 9 months later they are reading and writing fluently, think they were only around 6 years old.  Just shows how much you learn in your early years.

I just think that no one, including the "experts" really knows what is going on or knows what is going to happen. It is fine for people to have their own individual ideas but that is all they are so to get into heated debates is rather pointless. Even though Sunderland has been in virtual lockdown, since the first week of November, our numbers are still relatively high. Would it have been higher without it, more then likely, is it going to bring an end to the virus, no.

If the "experts" don't know how to stop it then I'm fairly certain anyone on here doesn't either.
At a slight tangent, wonder if the use of face coverings is adding to the spread as you are moving hands to face by putting them on and removing them and thus maybe giving yourself it by those actions. Remember when shop workers did not have to wear them and certainly they were not  going off ill, certainly at my local stores. And most of them worn are not the sort that surgeons would use. They kept the mantra of hands,face,space...and masks require hands, face.

For most of us the health aspect will not be a direct issue. Depending on age many are not significantly affected based on the news and info out there.

what is perhaps equally concerning is the delayed economic affect that will soon hit. There has been a lot of inflated currency introduced to the financial eco systems around the world. When this inflation kicks home and the affects are truly felt there is going to be extreme effects. Businesses going busy, people defaulting on finance and job losses. It is highly likely to almost certainly going to be a depression coming once the stimulus stops.

I do not think it would be unreasonable to expect for your business to decrease by at least 20% or more. Defo more for newer start ups with less loyalty and track record.

the knock on effects of this will be terrible.
And wait till furlough ends in April!!!!!!!!!!!!. The S**t will be looking for a fan to hit.

We usually have a recession every 7 years or so but the problem is when  governments prevents them. They can do this by pumping more money into circulation but all it does is load up later and eventually we have to enter a deeper recession. No one knows when the next recession will be because they may extend the furlough and print more money which I would do if I was in government. If house prices continue to go up then folk can take money out of them again. The big losers is the credit card firms because folk are paying off their debt and not flying. They have started to put up their minimum payments which shows they are worried about something. Biden wants another $1.7 Trillion stimulus package from the senate or house, heaven knows how much Trump printed. The big problem is the price of office blocks and shopping malls because no one needs them now. Trump will find out when the banks begin the repossession process.

A lot of the money used for the Malls and big office blocks are from pension funds......if they do not get returns, private pensions will be effected. There are going to be big hits in every sector from Governments actions.

The internet is the way forward and folk are even saying they get more work done working from the house which I found odd. Less social interaction now and far less overheads so it will continue. Great for the prison service because the inmates don't need to leave the prison, MPs don't need to fly down to Westminster everyday. But as you say, many businesses losing out especially the coffee houses. The internet is so successful now that we are running out of cardboard.

The coffee shops around here seem to be doing really well, steady queue most of the day, it's one of the only things that gets people out of their house, walk and a coffee.

It amazes me how the economy adapts.  Apparently the sales of books are up because people are wanting to put books in the background for their zoom meetings.

I agree.. Social media will also have a negative affect on them too.

Coffee shops and hair salons are busy for sure, here. I've picked up over a half dozen coffee shops snd salons just this month.

Not got a clue my friend

How’s it going there @Martyn
Thanks for asking, not great, more cases than the first wave even though we went into lockdown immediately. They think it's one of the new varients, it certainly spread rapidly.

One encouraging sign is that none of the new cases in todays figures were 'unexplained' so maybe we are reaching the peak, fingers crossed.
