Ladder And Cloth Questions?

All I can say on the matter after previous comments it's up to you all how you work as I'm no judge or executioner but for me I do like to get home after work each day.

hi ya /emoticons/smile.png all ladders in time get nocked and bent ect even the rungs come loose, the answer to this was a pice of threaded bare placed between the styles and opened out like a car jack, to take the slack out of lightweight alloy ladders, this bit of kit was endorsed by the FMW, years ago a ladder was cherished more than they are these days, they were measured to your height ie base of your foot to your knee so as you are comfortable on it, then varnished or painted in your company couler h&s would go ape if you painted a ladder these days, to be fare a bent rung is not going to send a ladder to the scrap yard ............pete

Basically yer or you can get them repaired by specialist firms,
If you took advantage of the ladder exchange that I posted about ages ago, like dodger did, traded his old ladder in for a brand new trade one!!

Both of you should go check your ladders (double ladders), Ill put money on it theres dents in it where the ladders sits in its normal position.There allways is unless you, very, I mean very gently lower your ladder and dont let it drop in to its idle position.

Be cool if you could both post some pictures up of your ladders too? Show us all how ladders should be etc etc

My ladders have no dents in and fully inspected each month with the log on the ladder and paper log to prove it too!

Plus they get check each time I use them too!!!

As I don't own pair of high work ladders I just get them from my farther in laws business when I need them, being in the tool and higher business I get the best quality ladders that are checked on a regular basis anyway, but I always check them myself before I use them anyway!

Well now you have read what the law states on damaged ladders you now know it's not just in mine and smurfs eyes!

What do you thought as much?

The fact I'm 100% WFP, and have no need to buy ladders to use? I use ladders maybe once a month if that, so why buy a good set when I can borrow the best for free!!!

Plus I don't use ladders much but yet I'm still ladder trained to make sure I comply and to cover myself.

thats the thing though, if you did use ladders everyday on say 100 climbs per day average then i guarantee within a week there would be dents on the bottom rung, should us traddies be buying a new set of ladders every week? a good set of ladders will last you years, and will pick up knocks and dents along the way, but they dont need to be binned as soon as they get a VERY SLIGHT AND INSIGNIFICANT BEND in the rung that the top ladder sits in.

as has been stated on this forum many times almost all accidents on ladders are caused by misuse and human error, its a very rare case a ladder fails structurally.

To be fair if I was using them day in day out, trusting my life on them to work and keep roof over head and daughter clothed and feed I would look after them a lot better, if people use them correctly then they will never get bent, they only get bent when people miss used them and throw them about. Scratches are the worst thing that should happen and the general wear and tear on any rubber feet. Other than that they should be in 100% shape.

Dad has 2 sets of ladders in the garage that he has been using when he was a builder, they have no damage on them apart from the general scratches and splashes of paint on them, think they must be 15+ years old now! Personally I would used them though.

each to their own, but i value my safety as much as you do, and i have a daughter to feed and keep a roof over as well, so i kinda resent those comments. using ladders for building work is completely different, no trade has more daily extensions then trad window cleaning and i dont think the small dents on my ladders are caused by misuse but through continued use, i do monthly inspections of my ladders the same as you do and imo they are structurally sound and in good condition.

Anyhow getting back onto the origanl post yes I still use ladders for conservatory roof deep cleans etc as on some jobs you still need to get close up a personal.

If budget is tight you or just a tight **** like me you can also make a diy wfp out of a chepo car wash brush & pole and if you want the extra reach the acme thread brush will fit onto a £15 5m Harris pole . Trad gear will also fit onto the removable plastic cone so best you dont lose it.

Regarding cloths on poles I often just rap a cloth around a wfp brush head to wipe drips etc from plastic guttering etc after I have washed them down. To hold the cloth in place on the brush I use chepo photo background type clips.

In true blue peter fashion here is a basic wfp I made earlier that I've used on conservatory roofs, guttering, soffits and fascias.

That little bute has earned me a small fortune when I first got started /emoticons/wink.png

Few questions about the photos-
Is the ladder ok? I mean it's leant against the guttering, won't it break it?

The sill cloths are in jaws which I use to wipe down stuff after I have been over them with a sponge, I usually wrap three of these cloths together then put them in the jaws and put a smithering of water, is that right?

This is the ladder I use for roofline work (gutter & downspout unblocking) also can be used as a free standing ladder away from consevatory guttering so can clean conservatory roofs may I add with no damage to it as of yet. My easi-dec conservatory ladder is also free from damage too.

I was only reffering to the people on here thats all, if your head wasent so big you would have realised that!
As above ^^ What I mean is you probably have a ladder or have used a ladder that has a damaged rung in some small insignificant way yet you come on here rattling on about how bad it is.

Yeah, yeah, we know all that already. You point it out as much as you rattling on about H&S. Boring....

Post a picture of a close up on some of the rungs. I bet there's small indentation on most of the rungs.
