Herd immunity would be when the vulnerable have kicked the bucket and then there is no more death because those left have become immune.

And that's the problem. To gain herd immunity, many would have to die in the process of the immunity being built up.

Herd immunity among humans is not a good principle.
Neither is loss of socialising and contact with others.....basic human DNA

Always have to be trade-offs
We just found a top lawyer up here, dead. I heard the suicides are going through the roof and depression is never been as high and then there is domestic abuse. Doesn't matter what we seem to do, Nature never lies so Aristotle told us 2500 years ago, it will get us in the end.

One of my mates has recently started a job at a local testing site at Ipswich. He told me to just drive up there and could get tested, didnt realize could be so easy for us to get tested. Dont sound nice though, sticking thing down throat and up nose. Have to try not to chuck up ?

Yeah KS  - the Gov relaxed the testing criteria middle of last week  - 'for those that need to travel to work' i.e us  - IF you or your those at home have symptoms/ill - unless I've missed something more up to date - idea being - if you're a 'scab' ? and currently working (as I am) and you/household get ill we can quickly find out if you/we need to stay home to prevent risk passing it on to custy's...etc.

I can imagine it would be 'relief' to know if we find ourselves/family feeling 'ill' whether it's man flu - or something worse  ?

Yeh im def going for the test. Ive got a sneaking suspicion I may've had it, but being a smoker and getting hay fever is hard to tell with mild symptoms. I know some care home workers where there've been lots of deaths, and the staff have most likely had it, think their testing is imminent.

Think care workers can get it on demand - i.e without showing any symptoms. Don't think it will show if you've had it, only if you got the virus in your system at the time of test...but if negative at least that will tell you that your symptoms are likely to just be hay fever etc..

Yes it would be handy to get it done when actually having it, at least then would know probably couldnt get it again.

Think the jury's still out on post infection 'immunity' - plenty of speculation - but guess not too many 'survivors' line up be 'given' it again to test the theory ?

Scottish - did the lawyer top himself?

Probably doing little business at the mo - £££ issues can spiral out of control if you're overextended and hit an unpextected 'bump' in the road can be the proverbial 'straw' especially if you have all the time in the world to over think a problem.

No such issues with us windies - I hope!

I think so but no money issues he had been struggling with his sexuality. As Homes used to say "Nothing like hard work to cure the mind" As you say, when you are busy you don't have the time to think about the past, you just get on with it. Out PW pavement outside my house and I picked up another job because van is parked half up on pavement and its a busy road so everyone sees it. ?

I was thinking last week, it would be a great time to park a nice sign written van right next to these long queue's outside the supermarkets, probably no better time than to get it noticed.  Think of all the hundreds that are going into the supermarket queueing for up to 20 minutes on a Saturday.

If I wasn't too busy then I would do it at my local supermarket for a few hours. I was powerwashing a perimeter wall around a church and I came to the bit next to the roundabout. I didn't really know how busy the roundabout was till I had to stop when a car went round. Must have took me half an hour just to PW four yards with all the stopping. Then it got me thinking about advertising on the roundabout or near it.

An advert near a roundabout I don't think would work, people are focused on getting through the roundabout.  If you look at your local high street, you often find the empty shops are always the ones that are not at the end and not near any stopped traffic.  The shops that seems to survive seem to be in the spots where the traffic stops like at a pelican crossing or a set of traffic lights.

Funny you should mention that. A while back, the council moved a bus stop 100 yards down the hill and no one thought much of it. Next month in the paper the butchers at the old bus stop was going bust because folk would jump off the bus and nip into the butcher's and catch the next bus home. With the bus stop now 100 yards down the hill meant the folk stayed on the bus because of all the more effort walking up the hill and back down again and they got their butcher meat when they were in town. Think the council had to move it back again but what got me was the anger on the butchers faces when it was in the paper. This anger is reappearing again with the lock down and they are getting paid 80% but what happens when that ends and there's no jobs to go back to?

This is so true - location, location, location! Brother and sister in law opened an Italian 'deli'/nice café in a really popular local touristy high street - except the high street runs straight for 1/2 mile gently down hill then same road does a 90 degree turn - they were just few shops along from the bend - they couldn't make it pay - most potential customers wander down to the 'end of the high street, looking round the corner don't bother to wander to see the other 5/6 shops 'round the corner' - little footfall/'eyeballs' are the death knell to business conversions. Advertising in/at/on the right media is crucial (imo)

Across from petrol stations is a good place to advertise or park up. When folk fill up they usually look about as they have time to waste.

This is a situation i am currently facing as a WC believe it or not. Motor is fubar and I can't find a suitable replacement. Decided to look at vans.. those have all dried up too. Before lockdown there were a few about but getting to them was difficult due to my partners working patterns but just as there was hope the lockdown came about. Now all the vans have completely gone and i still can't find a suitable car (hatchback) either.

Meanwhile i'm now losing WC jobs. I'm screwed. Had enough now, struggle to tolerate life most days but now i really can't cope anymore. Just thought i had a glimmer of hope of rebuilding my life from the ashes and now i'm back to square -6. I really have had enough now and just want to give up.
