I’m not that far from you Dave, so don’t you find your pole, brush etc freezing starting in those temps?
It was -4 when I started at half 8 yesterday and the top section of my pole froze, and that was using hot rush water.
Starting at 10 for the rest of the week, can’t be bothered with the faff of de icing stuff
Been ok apart from the first job yesterday
-2 this morning and no problems
I meant the lads have been out lol, I sit in the shop yes but I dont have no gas heater... I cant afford a gas heater... the cost of gas has gone through the roof now... lol
Thought you was a big baller lol

Havent been out since Monday. Cant stop my fingers from going Numb now in - conditions. Had wooly gloves under my Skytec Argons still get Numb.
Had a few messaging me moaning about being Late . Fek em . Poles & Reels out of van, not going back i untill Friday according yto the Weather forecast
Under armour top and a T-shirt on
Fleece
No gloves or hat
How can you be so cold?
Just cracked on all week
Only the last 2 years since old age makes my duff knee from motorbike accident hurt I haven’t still had my shorts on lol

I worked in -9c before xmas so -2 is a breeze,it's even warmer in North West England today(1c this morning)...if you ve got a hot water system you should have no problems with poles and hoses freezing as long as you keep the water running.if you have a diesel heater don't let the heater shut down with 100m of hose off the reel and you ll be fine.

Hot or not it will still freeze quick if you shut the water off
Best to keep it flowing

If your gloves are too tight then less air can circulate inside the gloves and your fingers will go numb, mine still go numb a bit in the morning but once they start to I take my gloves off for a few minutes let my hands get a bit cold then gloves back on,

I had no issues yesterday when it was colder at -1 to -2c it was +1c just before 9am but it sharp warmed up and I didn't need to wear gloves the rest of the day

I had this back in December it was -2c or lower and a few times through the day I couldn't completely drop section #1 because of frozen water on the section at one point I couldn't extend section #1 beyond halfway or collapse it while I messed on trying to de-ice it the jets or something else froze up I had to put everything in the van and go and pick my new aquarium heater up and this was after 11am

The joys of hot water dont have any issues at all ???

Its probably fan jets. They create a mist and in very cold weather that's impacting the end of the pole. I never had an issue years ago in minus or snow but this year especially before Christmas had a lot of problems.

Only did monday, tank water nearly solid frozen now anyway so thats it till next week (if it hopefully warms up by then) Also, though my body can take the cold my hands get pretty bad. On my right hand the knuckles swell and itch now when been in the cold. Cant find gloves big enough either really. The large ones are still tight fit. Anyone know of good make for working in that fit wide hands?

The Skytec Argon do an extra large that is for hands upto 254mm palm circumference - don't know if that's big enough? They are nice and warm but not 100% waterproof as the backs aren't coated so your hands breath a little.

not sure, will have a look. Think my hands will get arthritic if im not careful, I reckon its from when was younger and they used to get frozen without proper gloves etc.

my body can take the cold too but not my hands, i've tried for years and all sorts of gloves, i like the ones from screwfix the argon ones but they still lose heat. the only thing that has worked for me are mittens strangely enough, ok you may look like a boxer using them but they are lovely and warm if you go on ebay and type in german army ski mittens the ones with the edges like elasticated look are the better ones in terms of wear (been wearing them for a few years now)i suffer from white finger when its cold and trust me the pain is not nice and these do help with getting the heat back into your fingers.
i've just ordered a couple of pairs of gloves again, from ebay as my son uses them for work (hgv driver), i can say that they are wind proof as we were going down the m62 over saddleworth moor near manchester a couple of weeks ago i put one on and held my hand out of the window, couldn't feel a thing through them and yet they are very light to wear, search redrum running gloves on ebay i hope this helps you mate having cold hands is a proper pain and whilst we all want to be macho its only later on in life when arthritus sets in we then realise we could have prevented it earlier.

Totally agree with this. Anyone not wearing gloves in cold weather shouldn’t complain when they bare the consequences later in life

Wearing your Gloves does help/ Ive realised its when you are actually working having to hold the Pole with the cold water running through the Hose is what causes your hands becoming Cold. Ive tried to think of what to insulate the bottom section pole with . maybe a rubber sleeve like on a cricket bat. or anyone any better ideas . Cant be too fat as your hands would end up cramping as it will be too fat to keep holding for long periods

Why has this cold spell & especially the last one caused so many problems? I put a greenhouse heater in the van & that helps but may need 2 as some of the hose was still frozen despite a drive of 20 mins to work, had to do a trad bungalow first. Makes u think about getting hot water system but wouldn't pay more than £200 like Squeaky Dave!!

chinese deisal heater all the way for me it was the best sub £100 purchase i have made for many years, turn it on in the morning and within half an hour its 36c in the back of the van, i honestly don't worry anymore about the cold nights even let it freeze up most times its not a problem when you have one of these.
