People here have lost friends & family to this awful pandemic this past year. So I know I haven’t had a bad time of it. However, my dog passed away a couple of hours ago. He’s just a dog, but I’m heartbroken, he was my best mate. Remember their is a lot more to life than work. Work to live, don’t live to work. Don’t squander time cause you won’t get it back. I don’t wanna be one of those folk looking back regretting what I didn’t do. No one lies in their death bed and wished they worked more.
My Lab is nearly 10, lost my last one just before his 11th birthday so dreading what you're going through.

No matter how many times you go through it it doesn't get any easier. Hope the pain eases and the good memories help you get over your sadness.

I learnt many years ago what ever decision you make at the time you did it with the info you had in front of you. There is no point regretting and looking backwards because if you do you can't move forward.

I spent 20 years eating, sleeping and breathing work, still do Monday to Friday, so can appreciate others doing it. Is it sad? Possibly to those that don't have that mindset. Everyone lives their life the way they think is best and I don't think it's fair others criticising those that do things differently to them.

Really sorry to hear this sad news, I know how hard it can be we have we had to take our last two dogs to the vets and it seems to get harder each time, it is devastating and heart breaking and I really feel for you I really do. each day things will get a bit easier and the pain will fade away but will always have the good memories.

Agree five days a week, that’s how I’ve built a successful business, and sold a successful business.

I disagree when it’s seven days a week. That’s just my opinion. That’s what this open forum is about. If I think it’s sad to let work dictate your life seven days a week, that’s up to me ?

I've been down the 7 day route and when you're doing it it is very hard to get out of it. Standing ringing work from a pay phone on a Spanish beach as something work related has entered your mind and you need to check it has been done isn't a choice but a necessity when you're in that situation.

It's an addiction and very hard to get out of. Is it sad, probably, but like any addiction it seems to be the only way to go when you're the addict.

That’s brutal man I’m sorry. But glad you managed to shake it!

I didn’t mean any offence by my post, I just was trying to point out (to especially the younger ones here like me) that no one regrets not working more on their death bed and to put work in its place. Don’t get me wrong I love working, and so I need to be strict with myself, cause I know it will take over and it won’t lead to happiness as many thinks it does.

Don't worry as non taken, all I'm doing is putting my experiences across in a less argumentative manner then the other work alcoholic.

I shook it because the parent company shut it down so all I had to do is earn enough for me and not having to cover the £16K a week of overheads the business had. One of the reasons why I won't employ as I fear getting on that treadmill again.

Sorry to hear about your dog they do become a family member , I remember we had to have our dog put down over 20 years ago and it still hurts when I think about it now , are you going to get another one at some point ?? My daughter has a golden retriever and as she is a paramedic we have him quite a bit as she does  shift work ,and he is now part of our family as well as hers ???

So sorry to hear about your loss matey. We lost our cat last september and it really knocks you for six. Animals are incredible! Our Bodie was a special little guy. If you were down, he would sense this and come and sit with you. He used to go on walks with my Girlfriend. In some ways he was very similar to a dog. He was a spoilt little ? though. He wouldn`t be seen dead eating supermarket branded cat food and just loved his prawns. He even drank cat milk. Milk especially developed for cats. Would you believe it hey!?

Labs, I have found to be the most affectionate dogs our boy everyday acts like he has never seen me for weeks and always wants a big bear hug each morning and when I get in from work,  We are closest I have ever been with our previous dogs and the bond we have is going to absolute break me when that day comes.

I love labs to

Most dogs are lovely. Wife and I were involved in dog rescue and some, small scale specialist breeding in Ireland for assistance dogs and for showing. We had the privilege and pleasure of sharing our lives with so many dogs of different breeds, from tiny mixed terriers and Bassett Hounds to Bullmastiffs and all sorts in between. They lived, ate, played, walked (off lead and to heel till I'd give them the release signal) and slept together as our pack. Up to 33 dogs at one time.

Bullmastiffs are my favourite breed. Our Woody used to part the crowds at the dog shows. Not with aggression, just 86 kg of sheer, rugged, self assured, strutting presence. The canine equivalent of Charles Bronson. I swear though it might be hard to believe. When we approached to enter I'd say to him "Come on Woody, show em handsome boy!" He knew exactly what I was saying. I'd trained him to it at home. He'd stand himself visually taller and kind of set himself then he'd strutt his stuff with his head held high and proud. It was something to behold. ?

Thanks man. They really do become part of the family!

No I’m not planning to get a dog in the short term. I love them but they’re a big responsibility and I would like to travel a bit. I’ve said before of hoping to even move away and so it will be easier to do that the less commitments I have. Maybe once I’m settled somewhere again I’ll do it. ?
